Christchurch start-up Contented is proving that world-class innovation can be built right here in Canterbury. The locally founded AI company has just raised $4.1 million in seed funding to grow its team and expand into international markets.

Contented’s platform helps businesses get more value from everyday conversations. It captures discussion points from meetings or video calls and automatically creates documents like reports, minutes, or summaries, saving teams hours of admin work.

The company was co-founded by Christchurch tech entrepreneurs Hannah Hardy-Jones and Lucy Pink, who bring a mix of creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to the venture. Pink, a self-taught developer and former founder of ethical fashion start-up Onyou, teamed up with Hardy-Jones, who previously founded The Kite Program, a mental health app with a global reach.

Co-founder Hannah Hardy-Jones says the investment will help take Contented’s homegrown success to the next level. “We’ve had really strong interest from a great range of investors, and this funding is going to allow us to deepen our feature set, expand our customer base, and push hard into new territories like the UK and US.”

The pair met while building their earlier ventures and quickly connected over their shared passion for using technology, and especially AI, to make work smarter and more human.

“We believe conversations are the most underutilised resource in business. We’re here to change that,” says co-founder Lucy Pink. She says the company’s goal is simple: to help people focus on the parts of their jobs that matter most.

“Everything we do is about empowering people to work smarter. Our technology is human-first and frees up more human time for the stuff that matters most to organisations.”

Over the next few months, Contented plans to triple its team from five to around 15, creating new opportunities in development, customer success, and sales.

Already, the firm counts some of the country’s biggest names among its more than 200 customers, including Synlait, Craigs Investment Partners, Christchurch Airport, and Alliance Group.

“Alliance Group is a great example. The global premium meat exporter uses Contented to record meetings across the business, from plant floors to the boardroom, turning them into their key documents – meeting minutes, health and safety reports, and more.”

Altered Capital partner Finn Templeton says Contented’s progress is one of the most exciting growth stories to come out of New Zealand’s tech scene in recent years. He says it’s a testament to the product and Lucy and Hannah as founders.

“Contented generates structured insight and business value out of conversations, effectively turning talk into scalable intellectual assets and unlocking a previously unused source of value. We’re delighted to partner with Hannah and Lucy to help fuel Contented’s growth.”
